PBI-based composite membranes for polymer fuel cells

2010

Abstract In the present study poly(2,2-(2,6-pyridin)-5,5-bibenzimidazole) was used for the preparation of novel MEAs for high-temperature polymer fuel cells (HT-PEMFCs). We prepared hybrid materials with two types of silica fillers in order to increase the MEA performances using this polymer. The membranes were characterized in terms of their microstructure and thermal stability. Cell operation tests and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy were used for the characterization of the MEAs. A maximum power density of about 80 mW cm−2 was obtained at 300 mA cm−2 by using an imidazole-modified silica filler. The EIS technique showed that the fillers chiefly help to reduce the charge transfer r…

Biogas Cleaning by Hydrogen Sulfide Scrubbing and Bio-oxidation of Captured Sulfides

2015

Hydrogen sulfide and partially carbon dioxide can be absorbed into alkaline washing liquid with nitrates for upgrading a quality of biogas. Sulfides captured into the washing liquid are consequently biologically oxidized in an anoxic bioreactor by autotrophic denitrifying bacteria. Nitrates in the washing liquid serve as electron acceptors for sulfide bio-oxidation. Washing of hydrogen sulfide from biogas was examined in a lab-scale countercurrent scrubber that was packed with plastic carriers and operated at different biogas and washing liquid flows. The hydrogen sulfide concentration in treated biogas was investigated in the range from 3 to 12.3 g m–3. The influence of the hydrogen sulfid…

Anomalous intensity of the 335 cm−1 phonon in YBa2Cu3O7−δ

1991

Abstract We report results on Raman scattering for the intensity of the 335 cm −1 phonon of A g (pseudo B 1g ) symmetry in thin YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ films on MgO and LaAlO 3 substrates. The intensity of this phonon shows a pronounced increase below 100 K and saturates at low temperatures. We also observe an additional intensity peaking at temperatures close to the superconducting transition T C . This may indicate a structural phase transition in the vicinity of T C .

Improvement of biphasic polymerization by application of binary ionic liquid mixture

2013

Abstract The mixture of two ionic liquids, 1- n -butyl-3-methylimidazolium and 1-(2-phenylethyl)-3-methylimidazolium chloroaluminates, [C 4 -mim][AlCl 4 ] and [PhC 2 -mim][AlCl 4 ], were applied as a medium to immobilize the Cp 2 TiCl 2 titanocene catalyst for biphasic ionic liquid/hexane ethylene polymerization. The system makes possible to perform the reaction at lower temperatures, below the melting temperature of the aralkyl ionic liquid. A better separation of the ionic liquid phase was observed and an easier mass transfer of the polymer product from the ionic liquid to the hexane phase was obtained. The polyethylene reveals bimodal distribution of molecular weight. It is characterized…

Efficient energy transfer in a tri-chromophoric dyad containing BODIPYs and corrole based on a truxene platform

2018

A star-shaped molecule was designed and synthesized based on a known central truxene platform. Two BODIPY derivatives and one corrole macrocycle were introduced and connected to the 2, 7 and 12-positions of the truxene unit by Suzuki coupling. The dyad was fully characterized by UV-vis absorption, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry. The direction of energy transfer upon electronic excitation was explored, and the star-shaped molecule system exhibits a highly efficient photoinduced energy transfer process from the excited BODIPY part to the corrole unit.

Very fast singlet and triplet energy transfers in a tri-chromophoric porphyrin dyad aided by the truxene platform

2015

A trichromophoric dyad composed of an octa-β-alkyl-palladium(II)porphyrin (donor) and two tri-meso-aryl-zinc(II)porphyrins (acceptors) held by a truxene spacer exhibits very fast rates for triplet energy transfers at 77 (kET(T1) = 1.63 × 108 s-1) and 298 K (kET(T1) = 3.44 × 108 s-1), whereas the corresponding singlet energy transfer rates, kET(S1) = 3.9 × 1010 s-1 (77 K) and kET(S1) = 6.0 × 1010 s-1 (298 K), are also considered fast. The interpretation for these results is that the energy transfer processes proceed via a through bond Dexter mechanism (i.e. double electron exchange) supported by comparison with literature data and evidence for a moderate MO coupling between the donor and ac…

Origin of the temperature dependence of the rate of singlet energy transfer in a three-component truxene-bridged dyads

2014

We report a truxene-based dyad built upon one donor (tri-meso-phenylzinc(II)porphyrin) and two acceptors (octa-β-alkylporphyrin free base) in which the donor exhibits free rotation around a Ctruxene-Cmeso single bond at 298 K in fluid solution but not at 77 K in a glass matrix, whereas the acceptors have very limited motion as they are blocked by β-methyl groups. This case is interesting because all the structural and spectroscopic parameters affecting the rate for singlet energy transfer according to a Förster Resonance Energy Transfer are only weakly temperature dependent, leaving only the Dexter mechanism explaining the larger variation in rate of energy transfers with the temperature h…

A Bichromophore Based on Perylene and Terrylene for Energy Transfer Studies at the Single-Molecule Level

1999

A functionalized dialkylperylene and a modified terrylenetetracarboxdiimide (TTCDI) were joined by a hexanediyl spacer. The resulting bichromophoric molecule 1 (R = 4-tert-butylphenoxy) is a suitable model system for donor–acceptor energy transfer studies at the single-molecule level.
